Hi everyone! I'm delighted to announce that my first academic article has been published in Shima Journal. It explores the history of Starbucks' iconic mermaid logo and why Melusine, a serpent-woman from medieval myth, has been identified in recent years with images of double-tailed mermaids. Congratulations on being published! I found this blog a little while ago while doing some casual research (you have through algorithmic magic become a top hit when someone searches 'fairy tithe to hell' blind) and was really impressed by the work you put in to your research and your thorough citations. For some time I was a Sbucks barista who delighted in informing customers that the marine maiden emblazoned on the drug-peddling store's glowing sign was a siren, not a mermaid, whose gentle appearance they had foolishly trusted. Just, in turn, as workers were lured by promises of great benefits and received physically and mentally punishing work. It was fun to read about some of the complexities in the mythical association! At work, we joked about how 'the siren is getting closer'--every redesign zooms in on her face a little more. Concerning.
